The Joyce L. Maul Foundation
Our Founder, Mekael L. Shane was born on October 17th, 1970 in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he attended Park Tudor School. After graduating from high school, Mekael went on to attend Central State University in Ohio, where he pursued a degree in Political Science. Upon his departure from CSU, Mekael returned home to Indianapolis where he then went to work for Project IMPACT - Indianapolis, a non-profit organization that works to provide services for at-risk youth and their families. Mekael served his country as a member of the U. S. Army, where he received accommodations for leadership and excellence.
Mekael's past experiences with cancer, having suffered not only the loss of his mother, but his grandfather, godmother and others who were integral to his life, is what inspired him to found the JLM Foundation. Mekael also has the honor of serving as an Army Leader with the Lance Armstrong Foundation's LIVESTRONG Army in the great community of Dunwoody, Georgia.
“With the mission being to heighten the level of awareness toward the fight against cancer, I was hit with the vision of drawing attention towards this battle by climbing the world's seven tallest mountains, or reaching "The Seven Summits" as they are referred to, starting with Mt. Everest. Please visit our Mastering the Mountain page for more details about the expedition and Mt. Everest.” – Mekael L. Shane, Founder.
